Nau mai haere mai ki Puketapapa Te Whangai Trust - Welcome to Puketapapa Te Whangai Trust!

Whakarongo ake au ki te tangi a te manu, Tui, Tui, Tui, Tuia
Tuia i runga, tuia i raro.
Tuia i waho, tuia i roto.
Tuia te muka tangata i takia mai i Hawaiki nui, i Hawaiki roa, i Hawaiki pāmamao
Te here ki Wairua, ki te whai Ao, ki te Ao Mārama.
Tihei Mauri Ora.

E ngā Mana, e ngā Reo, e ngā Waka o te Motu, tēna koutou, tēna koutou, tēna koutou katoa.
I hear the call of the Tui bird.
Calling from above – calling from below.
Calling from the outside – calling from the inside.
Calling to the many generations of descendants from the Big Hawaiki (Hawaiki nui), the Long Hawaiki (Hawaiki roa), to the everlasting Hawaiki (Hawaiki pāmamao).
Weaving through the many strands of the spiritual world to the living world – the world of knowledge and understanding.
The breath of life.
To all Authorities, Cultures, Waka, and all communities of the region, greetings to you all.
Tēnā koutou katoa,
On behalf of the Te Auaunga Awa project team, I would like to invite you to a powhiri and hui to formally welcome Te Whangai Trust  into Wesley, Mt Roskill.

Thursday 23 June 2016
Wesley Community Centre
740 Sandringham Rd Extn, Wesley.

Through Te Auaunga Awa: Walmsley and Underwood Reserves Project, Te Whangai Trust will be working with Auckland Council, Wesley Intermediate, Mana Whenua, Project PETER organisations and the local community to establish a native nursery social enterprise at Wesley Intermediate.

The native nursery will provide native plants for the project and life skills, training and work readiness opportunities to the local community with a focus on young people and adults not in education, employment or training.  A short film on Te Whangai Trust’s approach can be found here
The powhiri will run from approximately 10:30-11:30am with lunch 11:30-12:30pm.  Those who are only attending the powhiri and lunch can then depart.
The afternoon hui will run from 12:30-2:30pm and will include a presentation by Te Whangai Trust. This will outline their native nursery social enterprise model followed by a workshop to explore the potential that the native nursery presents for us to work together.  We recognise that there are a number of wonderful organisations in this community doing fantastic work and we would like this hui to create connections between people and explore the opportunities for working together that the native nursery presents.

There are also plenty of opportunities for other activities to take place at the nursery for the wider community and local schools.  A steering group for the native nursery is being created and part of the group’s role will be to support the native nursery to integrate into the local community and further the ideas generated at this hui.
On behalf of the project team, we look forward to meeting with you and beginning this exciting journey with you all.
